Brisbane is the capital of Queensland and the third largest city in Australia, but despite its size Brisbane manages to maintain a relaxed, friendly atmosphere that is easily lost in other large cities.  Maybe it’s the nearby beaches, the wide meandering river and lush parks, or the stunning wilderness just a stone’s throw from the city; whatever it is Brisbane captures the energy and excitement of a major metropolis without the urgency that so often accompanies it.  Full of buzzing shopping destinations and lively bars no one could ever call Brisbane boring either.

South Bank Parklands

Nowhere embodies Brisbane’s chilled out atmosphere better than South Bank, the perfect place to grab a refreshing drink and relax before heading back into the heart of the city.  Spanning 17 hectares, the lush parklands are home to countless amazing eateries, great bars and even an artificial beach and have quickly become one of Brisbane’s favourite hangout spots.  The green spaces offer a welcome break from the city, while markets, BBQ’s and cultural activities ensure that it is always full of life.

Australia Zoo

Australia Zoo is one of Brisbane’s premiere tourist attractions, giving you the chance to get up close to some of the amazing animals.  Feed kangaroos, cuddle koalas and even walk with cheetahs and tigers in the ultimate animal encounter.  The zoo was taken over in1991 by Steve Irwin, who transformed it from a small reptile park into the international success it is today.  The zoo is still run by the Irwin family with help from a team of dedicated conservationists.

Nightlife

As you would expect in such a large city Brisbane has a lively nightlife and there are plenty of hotspots throughout the city catering to every taste imaginable, but for the best clubs and bars head straight to The Valley, Brisbane’s dedicated entertainment precinct.  Here you can find everything from live music venues to huge dance clubs, but to make the most of the Australian weather there are few places that can beat one of the outdoor bars.
